SMITH-MADRONE RETURNS TO THE AHWAHNEE
Session VI in November with Dan Berger as moderator

Yosemite Park and St. Helena, California, fall 2009----Come join Stu Smith in a high-altitude adventure, when he is one of the winery hosts of Session VI of The Ahwahnee Hotel's 28th Annual Vintners' Holidays. Smith, the founder and general manager of Smith-Madrone Winery in the Spring Mountain District of the Napa Valley, will be giving a seminar-tasting on Riesling as well as participating at the gala dinner created by Executive Chef Percy Whatley on the closing night. It's Session VI November 18-19; wine writer Dan Berger will be moderating the proceedings. If you've always wanted to experience Yosemite National Park---one of America's first national parks, spanning the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains---or the grand Ahwahnee Hotel, here's a reason.

The Vintners' Holidays program, based at The Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park, brings together 32 prominent California wineries over a series of eight sessions from November 1 to December 3. Participants are invited to meet, learn from and dine with different winemakers, winery owners and growers in each session, moderated by some of the most respected wine authorities in the country. Two- and three-night packages for Vintners' Holidays are available at The Ahwahnee and Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, which includes lodging, two tickets to the Gala Vintners' Dinner and admission to the "Meet the Winemakers" reception, starting at $996 (for The Ahwahnee) and $596 (Yosemite Lodge At The Falls). Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, The Ahwahnee is a full-service, AAA Four-Diamond hotel located in scenic Yosemite Valley, which is home to waterfalls, sequoias and enormous natural beauty, bountiful activities and historic charm.

At elevations between 1,300 and 2,000 feet, the vineyards extend in steepness up to 35% slopes. With its signature deep red Aiken loam soil, Smith-Madrone is located at the highest point in the Spring Mountain District appellation.
