Sometimes the sun, moon, stars and all things in nature come together at just the right moment and with just the right proportion to allow grapes to flower and mature into absolute perfection. We believe such is the case with our 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon. As winegrowers we did nothing out of the ordinary. As winemakers we did nothing out of the ordinary. Yet the 1999 vintage is clearly out of the ordinary. Nature did it all! High sugar, brown seeds and loads of flavor. At the stemmer-crusher the intensity of this fruit permeated the entire crush pad. We have to go back 20 years to our 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon to find a wine which even approaches the 1999 with such dark color, intensity of fruit and flavor and a finishing sensation of silky smoothness. The wine is huge, a meal in itself. This may well be the finest red wine ever produced by Smith-Madrone.
The wine is a very deep dark red with bright vibrant red hues at the edge of the glass. Aromas of earth, cedar and dark cherry of Cabernet Sauvignon dominate. On the palate the wine is confirmation of the aroma---as a great wine should be. It fills the mouth; it coats your taste buds and it stays forever. It booms elegantly out at you that this is the essence of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Because Smith-Madrone Cabernet Sauvignons are neither fined nor filtered there will be some sediment on the cork or at the bottom of the bottle.
